Stephanie's Story
Stephanie could not believe she had lost it all. While her family was at work and school, flames engulfed her apartment, destroying all their belongings and leaving them homeless. The circumstances that caused her crisis are extraordinary, but her experience is not uncommon and it is a situation that can happen to anyone. Many families in our community are at imminent risk of homelessness. Small problems like a child’s illness can snowball, resulting in devastating consequences. For the health and well-being of these families, it is critical that they find help with housing.
The Homelessness Prevention Initiative was able to provide Stephanie and her family with temporary rental assistance, which helped them move into a less expensive unit. They still lost all their belongings, but at least they have a home.
